SYLVANIA, Ohio – CCSJ men's volleyball looked to make it two wins in-a-row over the weekend, but was shown no mercy in their Saturday afternoon match against No. 6 Lourdes (Ohio), falling, 13-25, 6-25, 15-25.
"It's always great to play this level of competition, but unfortunately, we are still a work in progress to be able to maintain this level of play at a high level," head coach Richard Farrahi said. "We as a team looked good early, but couldn't maintain the speed and caliber of play throughout the match."
After a bright start in the first set in which the Wave took a 3-0 lead behind a Trevor Wagner trio of kills, the home side awoke from their slumber, stringing together four unanswered points to take the lead.
Lourdes found their rhythm after exchanging points with the visitors, and it would comfortably secure the first set thanks to a 12-3 run.
It appeared that the lesson from the beginning of the match was learned, as Lourdes stormed in front early in the second set. CCSJ tried to keep pace, but were smothered as soon as they pulled within touching distance.
A mix of unforced errors and clinical attacking concluded the set quickly.
CCSJ put together their best set at the end, but having started slowly, they were chasing the set from the very start. Despite better plays on the attack, Lourdes refused to relinquish control, keeping a safe distance until they earned its 25th and final point.
Things don't get any easier for the now 1-16 Wave, who face another ranked opponent when they travel to No. 7 Robert Morris Tuesday night.
