GARY, Ind. – Heading into another busy week of action, the Calumet College of St. Joseph women's volleyball team were looking to break their losing streak in a non-conference matchup against IU Northwest. While team errors were lower than most recent matches, something that has been the Crimson Wave's Achilles heel, 18 aces from the Redhawks sealed their fate, losing 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 16-25) Tuesday night in Gary.
The Crimson and Gray hit .133 as a team in the match, one of their higher percentages on the season, but were unable to stop the service game of IUN. Of the Redhawks 74 serves, 18 fell in for points. This prevented CCSJ from establishing any sort of flow to their game. IU Northwest also compiled 60 digs, almost double the 33 that the Wave had on the evening.
Leaders for Calumet College (2-15, 0-9) were Alex Sullivan (JR/Munster, IN) with nine kills, Rhiannon Kozy (JR/Griffith, IN) with 14 assists, and Alyssa Morales (JR/Tucson, AZ) with 10 digs. Breonn Green (FR/Hammond, IN) tallied a solo block, and Cheyenne Plecas (FR/Thorton, IL) was second on the team with 19 assists, only three behind Sullivan's 22
The Crimson Wave will now turn their attention to Great Lakes Christian College, whom they defeated last month in Lansing, Mich. This time the action will be played at the Rittenmeyer Center, with the first serve scheduled for 6:00 pm tomorrow evening. This will be their last warmup before welcoming five other teams to campus for the annual Crimson Wave Invite, taking place this Friday evening and Saturday morning. Full recaps of this entire week of action will be available on ccsjathletics.com
