Palos Heights, IL - Kicking off the CCAC season, the Calumet College Baseball team traveled to Trinity Christian for the two team's first CCAC doubleheader of the season. The Crimson Wave walked away with the game-one win with a bottom-of-the-7th walk-off win, but couldn't make the 9th-inning comeback losing game two 5-4.
Game One: CCSJ 1, Trinity Christian 0
Andrew Davenport went the distance on the mound for CCSJ pitching 7 full innings, striking out 6, walking 1, 2 hit by pitches, and allowing 5 hits.
The battle for both teams was at the plate, each team had 5 hits and left 5 runners on base throughout the game.
Going into the bottom of the 7th inning for the Wave, Michael Machnic was the first baserunner of the inning, reaching first base on an error and then stealing 2nd. Jacob St. Marie followed with a walk, and Julian Santoyo pinch ran for the catcher, bringing Maurey Garrett Jr. to the plate.
Garrett singled to right field giving Machnic the opportunity to round 3rd and score but was called out at the plate for the 2nd out of the inning.
The final batter of the game was Sean Moore, stepping up to the plate and hitting a single through the left side to score Santoyo from 3rd and winning the game 1-0.
Game Two: Trinity Christian 5, CCSJ 4
The Crimson Wave started off the second game scoring 2 in the 1st inning off a sacrifice fly from Nicholas Anderson and Gabriel Quinones.
William LePretre Jr. for the game two start for the Wave and went 7 full innings, striking out 3, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks, and 1 earned run.
Trinity Christian scored their first runs of the day in the bottom of the 4th inning to tie the game 2-2.
In the top of the 7th inning, CCSJ scored again after Trinity Christian's pitched balked, giving the Wave the 3-2 lead.
The Trolls took advantage of an error in the bottom of the 8th inning, scoring 2 runs and then a third run to head to the 9th inning with a 5-3 lead.
Darrius Little singled through the left side in the top of the 9th to score the Crimson Wave's 4th run of the game, but it wasn't enough to sweep the day as Trinity Christian won 5-4.
Notably, Moore was 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored, Little was 2 for 3 with a walk, RBI, and run scored, and Machnic was 2 for 3 with a walk.
The Crimson Wave return to action on Friday, March 17th in a doubleheader against Olivet Nazarene starting at 12 PM.
