Palos Heights, IL. – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's basketball team earned its fourth win of the season after making six free throws down the stretch to put away Trinity Christian 75-73.
How it Happened
The Crimson Wave (4-10, 2-5 CCAC) were in a back-and-forth contest in this one as it was tied at 21 with 8:45 left in the first half.
From that point, CCSJ put together a 12-4 run, capped by an Oshawn Lee 3-pointer, to create some separation.
Calumet College would continue to widen the gap after Joshua Morris made a layup to close the half and give the road team an 11-point lead.
To start the second half, Trinity Christian (4-10, 0-7 CCAC) scored six unanswered points before Morris made a 3-pointer to put an end to the run. Trinity Christian continued to battle back and was able to tie the game at 60 with seven minutes remaining.
Fortunate for CCSJ, every time the Trolls were in position to take the lead, Calumet College was able to get a layup at the rim to maintain control.
After Trinity Christian made a pair of layups with less than a minute remaining, Colby Wiggins was able to lay the ball up and extend the lead back to three. The Crimson Wave made four free throws in the final stretch while Trinity Christian missed a potential game-tying free throw. Floyd Davis was able to snag the final rebound on the last missed free throw by the Trolls to seal the win.
