Crimson Wave Open Season At Karl Schlender Invite
WHITEWATER, Wis. – Both Calumet College of St. Joseph track and field teams opened up their seasons this past weekend when they traveled to Wisconsin to partake in the Karl Schlender Invitational. While the women had less than a full team make the trek, the men picked up the slack, finishing third in a seven team field on Saturday afternoon.
RESULTS
Men: 3rd out of 7th (56 points)
Women: 7th out of 7th (34 points)
TOP WOMEN'S PREFORMER
The honors for the first meet of the 2019 indoor season goes to Kellyn Vale (JR/Crown Point, Ind.). The junior from right here in Northwest Indiana placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.80, only 0.51 seconds off a podium finish. There was no close finish in her other event. Vale blew away the competition in the one mile run, finishing in the top spot with a 5:35.80 finish, more than 14 seconds quicker than the next closest runner.
WOMEN IN THE TOP FIVE
Julia Mears (FR/Flint, Mich.) – 4th place in 200 meter dash (28.85 sec)
Grace Dwyer (SO/Lake Station, Ind.) – 1st place in 3000 meter run (11:48.76 sec)
TOP MEN'S PREFORMER
Robert Davis (JR/Baton Rouge, La.), a national qualifier in the long jump last indoor season, picked up where he left off in March with a pair of second place finishes in both of his events. Davis' final distance of 6.91 meters in the long jump and 13.81 meters in the triple jump were good enough to score 16 points towards the overall team score, points that factored greatly in the team's third place finish.

Rakeem Bluitt – 4th in 600 meter run (1:35.70 sec)
Tre Gibson – 5th in 600 meter run (1:36.40 sec)
