Sytsma’s Freshman season comes to an end at NAIA Championships
Gulf Shores, AL - Calumet College's Isaac Sytsma finished the season competing in the 1500M race at the NAIA Outdoor Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 25th.
As a Freshman, Sytsma was already familiar with NAIA Championship races, qualifying and running in the NAIA Cross-County Championships in Vancouver, Washington in the fall. In the CCAC Indoor Championships, Sytsma placed 3rd in the 800M run. Later in the spring, Sytsma placed 3rd in the 1500M run at the CCAC Outdoor Championships with a PR time of 3:55.72 to also meet the B standard and qualify for the NAIA Championships.
With a little bit of rest and a new environment, Sytsma and the Crimson Wave Track & Field coaches were ready to go at their first outdoor championships. The competition was tough and the weather was also not as cooperative. In the preliminary race, Sytsma placed 21st with a time of 4:00.77 to end the season.
Although the season came to an end, Sytsma owns the program records in the 800M with a 1:55.55, the program record for the 1500M with 3:55.72, and two CCAC 3rd place finishes.
