Softball goes 1-1 on opening day of Florida Trip

Kissimmee, FL- Calumet College (1-1) opened their annual spring trip at The Spring Games in Kissimmee on Thursday with their first games against Ave Maria University and Cleary University. The Crimson Wave went 1-1 on the day with a 9 inning loss of 8-7 to Ave Maria and a 7-6 win over Cleary.
Game 1- Ave Maria 8, CCSJ 7 (9 innings)
With a thrilling game to start the trip, the Crimson Wave Softball team had nearly matched every run that Ave Maria had also put up. Roxanne Ines started the game and pitched 7 of the 9 innings giving up 4 earned runs, 5 hits, and 7 walks with a total of 4 strikeouts. The Crimson Wave offense got warmed up in the sunshine state and rose to the occasion with 11 hits and 6 RBIs throughout the game to keep up with AMU, but left 8 runners on base. As the Crimson Wave tied the game in the bottom of the 7th, Kenzie Lanman went to the circle for the extra innings. Lanman gave up 4 hits with 2 earned runs and 1 Homerun giving Ave Maria their chance to win the game in the top of the 9th inning. In the bottom of the 9th, the Crimson Wave scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning but couldn't quite get the 3rd run in to tie the game. Alex Navarro led the CCSJ offense, going 3-5 with 3 RBIs.
Game 2- CCSJ 7, Cleary 6
Coming off a tough loss, the Crimson Wave were eager to finish the first day with a win. Bailey Bennett-Jordan started in the circle for the Wave and went 3 innings for the Wave with 2 strikeouts, but giving up 4 runs, 2 walks, and an HBP. Josselline Monge came in to pitch for the Wave in the 4th inning, giving up 2 runs, 12 hits, with 1 strikeout. Once the Crimson Wave offense got going, they put up four runs in two innings on Cleary to take the lead going into the 4th inning. RBIs from Kylee Bunnell, Priscilla Seniw, Kayla Kirmani, and Kylee Slack helped get the Crimson Wave on the board, but the bats were silent as Cleary took the lead in the 5th inning. In the 6th inning, Seniw had a big 3 RBI triple to put the Crimson Wave ahead 7-5 going into the 7th inning. With one out and bases loaded, Cleary scored a run off of Monge and Kenzie Lanman went to the circle for the Wave. Lanman shut down the final two batters with bases loaded to help the Crimson Wave win the game 7-6. Seniw led the offense, going 3-3 with 4 RBIs, Adelina Staden also went 3-3 with a run scored, and Brianne Kosina was 2-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored.
