Whiting, IN - The Calumet College Softball team hosted Olivet Nazarene in their third and final doubleheader of the week. The Crimson Wave were 2-2 on the week and up against a tough Tigers team. Game 1 was tough for the Wave as the Tigers' offense jumped early and held the Crimson Wave to win the game 12-4. In Game 2, the Crimson Wave scored another 4 runs and played a tough defense to hold ONU to just 4 runs. In the 7th inning, the Wave won the game 5-4 after a double with ONU errors scored Tiffanie Brieno to tie the game and a double from Grace Elrod scored the winning run.
Game 1 - CCSJ 4, ONU 12 (6 innings)
Olivet Nazarene jumped on the Wave early, scoring 1 run in the 1st inning, 5 in the 2nd, and 5 in the 3rd. Josselline Monge started in the circle for the Wave and went 3 innings, giving up 11 runs, 10 earned runs, and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts. The Crimson Wave struggled to get the offense going but scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning after a single RBI from Brieno and an RBI from Roxanne Ines. Bailey Bennett-Jordan came in to pitch for 2 innings in the 4th, giving up 2 hits with 2 strikeouts. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Wave scored off a single RBI from Elrod to bring the score to 11-4. Kylee Bunnell went to the mound in the top of the 6th inningThe Tigers scored their final run in the 6th inning and shut down the Wave in the bottom of the 6th inning to win the first game 12-4.
Kayla Kirmani went 2-3 and a stolen base, Elrod went 2-3 with 1 RBI and a stolen base, and Brieno went 2-3 with 2 RBIs.
Game 2 - CCSJ 5, ONU 4
Kenzie Lanman started in the circle for the Crimson Wave and went the full 7 innings with 3 strikeouts and 4 earned runs. The Crimson Wave defense worked hard in the second game and held the Tigers offense from scoring until the top of the 5th inning when ONU took the lead 2-0. The Wave scored their first run in the bottom of the 2nd when Ines singled on a bunt and scored Brieno. Olivet Nazarene scored again in the top of the 6th to take a 4-1 lead. The Crimson Wave countered in the bottom of the 6th, scoring 2 from an RBI singles from Adelina Staden and a double RBI from Kylee Slack to bring the Wave just i=one run behind at 4-3. After shutting down the Tigers in the top of the 7th, ONU put in a new pitcher and Brieno doubled but scored after ONU's throwing errors to tie the game 4-4. The next two batters lined out, but Kirmani kept the inning going with a 2-out triple to center field. Elrod came up to bat and doubled to left field to score Kirmani with the walk-off win 5-4.
Ines went 2-4 with an RBI, Ryan Regnier went 2-4, Kirmani went 2-4 with a triple, Elrod went 2-4 with an RBI and 2 doubles, and Brieno went 2-3 with a double.
