Softball sweeps Trinity Christian
Palos Heights, IL - The Calumet College Softball team traveled to Trinity Christian College for their first conference games of the week. The Crimson Wave had previously played TCC in Florida during The Spring Games, winning the contest 8-0 in 5 innings. The Wave did not hold up playing the Trolls again, winning Game 1 11-0 in 5 innings and Game 2 6-4.
Game 1 - CCSJ 11, TCC 0
Josselline Monge started in the circle for the Crimson Wave and went the full 5 innings with 2 strikeouts and giving up 4 hits and no runs, earning her 5th shutout of the season.
The Crimson Wave had a silent 1st inning but scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd off a double from Adelina Staden to take the lead 2-0. In the top of the 3rd inning, Staden got another RBI on a single to bring the score to 3-0.
In the 4th inning, the Crimson Wave stepped it up with a 2-RBI single from Ryan Regnier and a 2-run Homerun from Kylee Slack to bring the Wave's lead to 7-0. In the top of the 5th inning, Regnier got another RBI, Slack hit another 2-run Homerun, and Grace Elrod hit an RBI double to bring the Wave's winning total to 11-0.
Slack was 3-4 with 2 Homeruns and 4 RBIs, Alex Navarro was also 3-4 with a double, and Staden was 3-4 with 3 RBIs and a double.
Game 2 - CCSJ 6, TCC 4
Roxanne Ines started on the mound for the Wave in Game 2, going 4 innings with 3 strikeouts giving up 3 walks and 3 earned runs.
The Crimson Wave's offense was again silenced at the start of the game, but the Wave defense also held the Trolls. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Trinity Christian scored 2 runs to take the lead. In the top of the 4th, the Wave countered with a run from an RBI single off Navarro's bat, but the Trolls countered in the bottom of the inning with a run making their lead 3-1. At the top of the 5th inning, the Wave scored 3 runs off a single RBI from Ines and a 2-run RBI single from Kayla Kirmani to take a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Bailey Bennett-Jordan went to the circle for Ines, throwing for 1.2 innings with 1 strikeout and giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run. At the end of the 5th inning, the Trolls scored 1 run to tie the Wave going into the final 2 innings of the game. At the top of the 6th inning, Staden hit another single RBI to give the Wave a 5-4 lead. Kenzie Lanman went to the mound to finish the 6th inning, going 1.1 innings giving up just 1 hit, and earning the save. In the Wave's final at-bat, Slack hit a single RBI that extended the Crimson Wave's lead to 6-4. Lanman shut down the Trolls in the bottom of the 7th and secured the Crimson Wave's sweep of Trinity Christian.
Ines went 2-3 with 1 RBI and a walk, Kirmani went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, and Navarro went 2-4 with 1 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
The Crimson Wave are now 7-5 in CCAC play and with the sweep of Trinity Christian, Head Coach David Lopez earned his 100th win at CCSJ. The Wave host St. Ambrose at home on Thursday at 3 and 5 PM.
