Indiana South Bend
South Bend, IN - The Calumet College Softball team traveled to IU-South Bend on Thursday for their second CCAC match-up of the week. The Crimson Wave were coming off a tough two-game loss to St. Xavier and looking for a couple more wins before finishing their regular conference season. The Crimson Wave played a close first game, just coming up short in the 8th inning to lose 3-2 and struggling in game two losing 8-4.
Game One: CCSJ 2, IUSB 3 (8-innings)
Senior Josselline Monge started on the mound for the Crimson Wave, going the full 7 innings with 4 strikeouts, allowing just 1 walk and 1 earned run off of 8 hits.
The Titans held the Crimson Wave at the plate, not scoring until the 4th inning off a 2-run single from Freshman Adelina Staden. IU-South Bend scored in the bottom of the 5th inning to cut the Wave's lead to 2-1 and then scored again in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game 2-2. After leaving several runners on base and not bringing anyone home, the Titans hit a walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the 8th inning to win the game 3-2.
Game Two: CCSJ 4, IUSB 8
Sophomore Kenzie Lanman started on the mound for the Wave, going 2.1 innings for the Wave allowing 5 runs off of 7 hits with 1 walk,
The Crimson Wave scored first, scoring 1 run in the top of the 1st inning off a single RBI from Freshman Kylee Slack. The Wave scored again in the top of the 2nd inning off an RBI double from Sophomore Brianne Kosina who then scored off a wild pitch, then Sophomore Tiffanie Brieno scored off a Titans error after stealing 3rd base to bring the Wave's lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Titans scored 4 runs before the Crimson Wave made a pitching change to Sophomore Bailey Bennett-Jordan who went 3.2 innings with 1 strikeout and 3 earned runs off 5 hits. IU-South Bend scored 7 runs total in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take the lead 7-4 going into the top of the 4th inning. The Titans scored their final run in the bottom of the 6th inning and held the Crimson Wave at the plate to secure their 8-4 win over the Wave.
Kosina led the Crimson Wave at the plate throughout the doubleheader, going 4-5 on the day with 1 RBI, a walk, and a double.
