Lake Wales, FL - Coming off a 1 and 1 day, the Calumet College Softball team took on Warner University. The Crimson Wave played a close first game, losing 3-2, but made the late comeback in game two to win 3-2 for the first time in 6 years.
Game One: Warner 3, CCSJ 2
Kenzie Lanman took to the mound for the Wave and went a full 6 innings for the Crimson Wave. Lanman and the CCSJ defense held The Royals from scoring until the 4th inning as Warner scored the first run of the game. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Warner scored another two runs to take a 3-0 lead over the Wave.
In a last-ditch effort, the Crimson Wave kicked off the top of the 7th inning with a leadoff double from Adelina Staden. Alex Navarro followed with a double to center field, scoring Geralyn Barton from 2nd, and then stealing 3rd base. Sydney Muph and Tiffanie Brieno were both hit by pitches to give the Wave bases loaded with Kayla Kirmani at the plate. Kirmani hit a deep fly ball into foul left territory that was caught but Navarro was able to head home and bring the score to 3-2. Roxanne Ines flew out to left field ending CCSJ's final effort to extend the game.
Staden was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles for the Wave while Navarro was 1-for-3 with an RBI and stolen base.
Lanman had 5 strikeouts in 6 innings of play, allowing 8 hits and giving up 3 earned runs.
Game Two: CCSJ 3, Warner 2
The Crimson Wave continued their momentum from game one in the 1st inning of play as Ines scored off an error from Warner's left fielder, giving CCSJ the 1-0 lead.
The Royals countered in the bottom of the 1st inning, tying the game at 1-1 going into the 2nd inning.
The Wave were the next to score in the top of the 4th inning as Ines scored Brianne Kosina off a single to 3rd base, giving CCSJ the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the 6th inning, Barton doubled to left center field scoring Kosina and extending the lead to 3-1. Warner countered again in the bottom of the 6th inning but only scored one run bringing the score to 3-2.
The Crimson Wave were unable to extend their lead in the top of the 7th inning, but shut down Warner in the bottom of the inning to defeat The Royals 3-2.
Ines pitched all 7 innings for the Wave, allowing 8 hits and just 2 earned runs.
Barton was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and Ryan Regnier was 2-for-4.
