Lakeland, FL - The Calumet College Softball team took on Southeastern University on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The Crimson Wave dropped both games to the #4 ranked Fire, game one 6-4 and game two 10-2.
Game One: SEU 6, CCSJ 4
Starting on the mound for the Crimson Wave was Codilyn Olds who went the full 6-inning game, striking out one and giving up 10 hits and 5 earned runs.
Southeastern scored first with a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the 2nd inning for the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the 3rd inning, CCSJ scored their first runs of the game as Roxanne Ines singled to left center, scoring Kayla Kirmani.
Ines was the next to score after a fielder's choice hit from Kylee Slack, tying the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Fire hit a 2-run homerun to bring the score to 4-2. Southeastern scored again in the bottom of the 4th inning, bringing SEU's lead to 5-2.
The Crimson Wave countered in the top of the 5th inning as Alex Navarro doubled to left center and scored Adelina Staden and Ines and came within one run of the Fire.
Southeastern scored the final run of the game on the top of the 6th inning, extending their lead to 6-4 and winning game one.
Ines and Navarro were 2-for-3 at the plate for the Wave. Ines scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI, Navarro had 2 RBIs and a double.
Game Two: SEU 10, CCSJ 2
The Crimson Wave scored the first run of the game off a single up the middle from Staden, scoring Ryan Regnier.
Southeastern countered and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Fire broke the game open in the 2nd inning off a 2 run RBI single, giving SEU the 4-1 lead.
Kenzie Lanman started on the mound for the Crimson Wave, only going 2 innings, Lanman allowed 4 hits and 2 earned runs.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Bailey Bennett-Jordan went to the mound for CCSJ, striking out 1 but giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs in the one inning of work.
The Fire scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning and brought their lead over the Wave to 10-1. Kylee Bunnell went in relief for Bennett-Jordan in the bottom of the 4th inning and had one strikeout and no hits or earned runs.
The Crimson Wave didn't go out quietly as Tiffanie Brieno hit her first homerun of the season to score CCSJ's 2nd run of the game. The effort wasn't enough to keep the game going as CCSJ lost to Southeastern 10-2 in 5 innings.
