Crimson Wave Softball splits CCAC opener against Judson with double-digit Game 2 win
Elgin, IL - Starting off the conference season, the Calumet College Softball team traveled to take on Judson University in their first doubleheader since returning from their Florida trip. The Crimson Wave took a one-run loss in the first game after timely hitting from the Eagles gave them the 6-5 lead. In game two, the Wave took off at the plate, scoring 18 runs off 21 hits and forcing a run rule in the 6th inning.
Game One: Judson 6, CCSJ 5
The Crimson Wave started off the 1st inning after a single RBI from Adelina Staden and a double RBI from Kylee Slack, giving CCSJ the 2-0 lead.
Kenzie Lanman started on the mound for the Crimson Wave and went 5 innings, striking out 1 with 8 hits and 4 earned runs allowed.
Judson countered in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a 3-run homerun to take the lead, 3-2.
In the 3rd inning, Staden led off with a double and was followed by a homerun over the left-center field fence from Slack to give the Wave back the lead, 4-3.
The Crimson Wave scored once again in the top of the 4th inning with a single RBI to right field from Roxanne Ines, extending CCSJ's lead to 5-3.
The Eagles came back in the bottom of the 5th with another 2-run homerun to tie the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Ines went to the mound in relief of Lanman. After 2 outs and 2 singles from Judson, a deep ball to right field scored the 6th and final run of the game. In the top of the 7th, CCSJ was three up three down as the Eagles took the 6-5 game one win.
Ines had 1 inning pitched, 1 strikeout, and 2 hits allowed. Slack and Staden were both 2-for-4 at the plate and Kayla Kirmani was 2-for-2 at the plate with 2 stolen bases for the Wave.
Game Two: CCSJ 18, Judson 6
After a tough game-one loss, the Crimson Wave quickly jumped on the Eagles in the 1st inning again, but this time scoring four runs. Ines started the inning with a double to left field, followed by a single to center from Ryan Regnier. Staden hit a 2 RBI single to right field to score the first runs for the Wave. Slack followed with a single and Alex Navarro hit an RBI single to right-center scoring the 3rd run of the game. A single RBI from Marissa McElligott scored the 4th run for CCSJ going into the bottom of the 1st.
Bailey Bennett-Jordan got the start on the mound for the Crimson Wave, going 6 innings in the circle with 5 strikeouts, 7 hits and 2 earned runs allowed.
In the top of the 2nd inning, the Wave scored another 5 runs to continue extending their lead. Slack hit an RBI single to center field to score Ines from 3rd and Navarro hit a 2 RBI double to score Regnier and Staden. With bases loaded, Bennett-Jordan hit a fielder's choice to get Slack out at home, but a throwing error to get a double-play scored Navarro. To finish off the inning, McElligott hit an RBI fly ball to right field to score Codilyn Olds and bring CCSJ's lead to 9-0.
Judson scored their first runs of the game, scoring 2 runs off a grounder to the shortstop and double to right center.
The Crimson Wave continued their scoring spree in the 3rd inning, after a single from Kirmani and a double from Ines, Staden hit an RBI single. Slack followed with her second homerun of the day to score 3 runs and further extend the Wave's lead to 13-2.
The Eagles came back in the 4th inning scoring 3 runs after a couple of errors and another run in the bottom of the 5th inning off a solo homerun to cut CCSJ's lead to 13-6.
In the 6th inning, the Crimson Wave shut the door on the Eagles, scoring another 5 runs off a 3-run homerun from Staden and a 2 RBI single to center field from Bennett-Jordan as CCSJ won game two 18-6.
Ines and Staden led the Wave, going 4-for-5 at the plate, Staden with 6 RBIs. Regnier and Slack were both 3-for-4 at the plate, Slack with 4 RBIs.

The Crimson Wave will play their first home games of the season on Wednesday, March 29th against Oakland City at 12 PM & 2 PM.
