13 Sprint Football players earn Inaugural MSFL All-Conference Honors, Saez earns Special Teams MVP
Whiting, IN - 13 Calumet College Sprint Football players were awarded the inaugural MSFL All-Conference honors Tuesday as the league announced the list of inaugural honorees. Five student-athletes were awarded first-team honors, 8 awarded second-team, two were named Captains of Character, and Jared Saez earned Special Teams MVP.
Making MSFL 1st-Team All-Conference Offense was Jonathon Flemings, a Running Back from Michigan City, IN, who was also the first-ever MSFL Offensive Player of the Week. Flemings led the Crimson Wave in Rushing yards with 709 and 7 touchdowns. Two Freshman Offensive Linemen, Ryan Davenport from Griffith, IN, and Hunter Boatright from Dawson, TX, were also awarded Offensive 1st-Team All-Conference for the 5-2 Crimson Wave.
The Crimson Wave's 1st-Team All-Conference Defensive team was Isaac Hegwood, a Defensive Back from Portage, IN, a two-time MSFL Defensive Player of the Week winner, with 62 tackles, 5 tackles from loss of yards, 4 Breakups, 2 Fumble Recoveries, and 2 Interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. Rounding out the Wave's 1st-Team awards was Linebacker Trevor Busse, from Knox, IN, who finished the season with a whopping 65 tackles, 9 tackles for loss of yards, 2 sacks, 1 Interception, and 3 Breakups.
The Crimson Wave had eight student-athletes make the 2nd-Team All-Conference list. On the Offensive team were Blaze Cano (Cedar Lake, IN) and George Montes (Kokomo, IN). The Defensive team comprised of Quindarius Davis (Benton Harbor, MI), Josh Jones (Indianapolis, IN), Alexander Dellaechaie (Las Vegas, NV), Josh Tejeda (Hobart, IN), and Jake Bodenchak (New Lenox, IL). Christian Price (Brazil, IN) rounded out the 2nd-Team awards on the Special Teams 2nd-Team list.
Saez (Leesburg, FL) was awarded the inaugural Special Teams MVP honor after a standout season. Saez was 4 for 4 in Field Goal kicks and 8 for 9 in Extra Point Attempts, scoring a total of 20 points. As the team's sole punter, Saez punted for 1058 yards in 34 attempts, for an average of 31.3 yards, with a season-long of 63 yards. Saez also finished with 14 punts inside 20 yards, 5 fair catches, and 1 touchback.
The final postseason award was the Captains of Character award presented to 12 student-athletes who embodied integrity, leadership, respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship on and off the field. Dylan Cortez (Topton, PA) and Dellaechaie were named two of the inaugural Captains of Character.
