CHANNAHON, Ill. - A couple weeks of preparations culminated in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championship for the Crimson Wave cross country teams on Saturday morning in Channahon, Ill.
The Wave men crossed the finish line in 8th-place overall out of 14 schools, while the women's team wrapped up the 2016 campaign in 11th-place out of 13 competing squads.
"On the women's side, we were short-handed and dealing with some injuries, but Harley Sutton led us to 11th-place, two places better than last year," head coach Rick Torres said. "Our top four took it out aggressively, but couldn't hang on. By the two-mile mark our spirits were still intact, but our legs weren't cooperating."
Sutton (43rd) flew around the course at a 21:07 clip, leading the way once again for the Wave in the women's 5K race that saw 135 ladies take the trails. CCSJ combined for a time of 2:21:07.9 and watched four of its student-athletes finish in the top 65.
Dayanir Montoya was only a few seconds behind at 21:31 (52nd) and then Kellyn Vale and Danielle Weems wrapped up their races at the 22:40 and 23:08 marks, respectively.
Annette Herrera came in 75th at 24:57, and Camyrria Baggett finished off the women racers for the Wave with a time of 27:41, good for 84th overall.
